Storm Cosplay

-What got you into cosplay?

A friend of mine started dressing up for WonderCon a few years ago and got me into it. But I didn’t really start delving head first into Cosplay until March 2011.

– How long have you been cosplaying?

A little over a year now.

– Were there any particular reasons you selected this character?

Catwoman: Catwoman has always been my favorite Siren ever since I started reading comics. I loved that she was kind of an anti-hero. She saved you if she loved you and robbed you if she hated you/could gain anything from it. I loved her before the new DC 52 but have since fallen in love with her more while reading them. You always see the newer costume of hers…or the Burton version but never any of her classic costumes (at least I haven’t) and I knew that for my first costume of hers it had to be one of her classics.

Storm:  Storm has always been one of my favorite X-Men (Kitty Pryde being my second) and I knew at some point I wanted to cosplay her…once I got into cosplaying that is. I was originally gonna do the unitard version of this costume with someone who is now not my friend and when I got the opportunity to re-make and wear her I opted for the no pants version (which was dumb because it was kind of cold for this convention). I love that Storm is one of many strong leaders of the X-Men and the fact that she’s kind of like an amazon (height wise) was also really intriguing to me because..well..I’m about 6’0. I ended up mixing two costumes together to get what I wanted and even though it wasn’t accurate it was a hit!

– What would you consider the most difficult part of this costume?

Catwoman: Most definitely the cowl/mask. That took a lot of practice but it ended up working for me in the end.

Storm: The cape. That was my first time making one and it turned out better than I had expected.

– What cosplay would you like to do in the future?

My DREAM cosplay is a female frost giant based off of the movie Thor. I have planned it for a long time but it takes a lot of latex prosthetic work that I do not have any experience it. I want to learn how to make it soon so that I can start on it.

– What’s your favorite part about cosplaying?

Definitely learning new things and how to use different materials based on what you need. I went into this not knowing how to sew ANYTHING and thus far have produced a lot of awesome costumes for myself. I also love meeting new people who love the same fandoms as I do, it makes for a great coplay experience!
